CIAT Insurance Services, a sponsor of the CIAT Awards, were delighted to present prizes to some of the country’s leading architectural technology practices.

We sponsored the Excellence in Architectural Technology award, the premier built environment accolade which recognises outstanding achievement in the practice of Architectural Technnology.

P+HS Architects were the winners in the category for their design of the new radiotherapy satellite unit at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough. The existing Chemotherapy day unit was extended and refurbished along with a number of existing LINAC treatment rooms.

The judges said: “P+HS created an innovative project that is calm, open and welcoming and is a testament to the Architectural Technology discipline.”

Wardmans Architectural Services were highly commended for the Studford Luxury Lodges project in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, which were designed to employ the latest biomass technology. It was billed as “a superb example of Architectural Technology at its best.”

The new Lifeboat Station in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, designed by Studio Four Architecture Limited, was highly commended by the judges. They said it is an “extremely impressive project which overcame a number of technological and logistical issues in the brief to convert an existing building, in a conservation area, into a fully functional lifeboat station.”

Kevin Crawford MCIAT, Vice-President Technical and Chair of the judging panel said: “We are delighted that the winners of this Award have continued to demonstrate the importance that the Architectural Technology discipline has to play in creating our environment and how it leads in creating designs that perform and function. The technologically advanced, environmentally conscious and aesthetically pleasing work effectively showcases our profession and will undoubtedly inspire others.”
